A Puppy Rescued from an Oil Tank in Cyprus
A puppy has been rescued from an open oil tank in Kyperounta, Cyprus. Previously, other animals had died in this same tank.
According to representatives from the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation, the fire department responded to a citizen’s report on Monday and successfully extracted the trapped animal. However, the party noted that other animals had previously perished in the same tank.
Anthia Mouzouri, the party's animal protection coordinator, thanked the fire department and called for immediate action, highlighting that this is not an isolated incident in the area.
"The tank needs to be closed as it is a deadly trap for hundreds of animals and could also pose a danger to humans," she said, urging the mayor of Kyperounta to order the tank's closure immediately.
The incident has highlighted a widespread issue, with the party stating that Cyprus is "littered with open tanks and pits." They appealed to local authorities to eliminate these hazards and urged citizens to report such dangers to municipal authorities or the party itself.
The rescued puppy is currently in a veterinary clinic, where doctors have described it as injured and exhausted.
