Live Christmas Tree Sales Begin in Cyprus
The Republic of Cyprus has officially begun the sale of live Christmas trees, offering residents a chance to purchase fresh trees at nine forest stations from November 27 to December 20. Prices start at €6 for untreated trees up to 1.5 meters tall, while black pine trees are priced at €14.
- The Christmas trees we provide are harvested through thinning operations and other forestry practices to promote healthy forest growth and prevent trees from drying out, stated the Forestry Department in a press release.
The department also issued a reminder that cutting, storing, or transporting Christmas trees without a permit is a criminal offense. Violators may face penalties of up to €5,000, imprisonment, or both. To ensure legality, all trees sold through official outlets bear a special stamp.
To keep your Christmas tree fresh for the holidays, the Forestry Department recommends storing it away from heat sources. Placing a towel with a small amount of water at the base can help maintain its freshness.
