53rd Olive Festival Kicks Off in Cyprus
On Friday, September 13, the 53rd Olive Festival will take place in Tseri, near Nicosia. The event will be held at the central square next to the historic church of Saints Saints Andronikos and Athanasia.
Established in 1969, this festival is one of the oldest on the island. It is organized annually by the Tseri Renaissance organization, which aims to showcase local traditions and olive-based products. Attendees can look forward to a vibrant cultural program and stalls featuring traditional Cypriot delicacies.
Organizers highlight that Tseri has traditionally been known for agriculture and livestock. Today, the region is renowned for its olive and olive oil production. In fact, Tseri was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2019 for its olive cultivation. The festival is named “Crushed Olives” because it coincides with the start of the green olive harvest, during which olives are primarily processed into crushed form.
The festivities will begin at 8:00 PM. Entry to the festival is free, but guests are encouraged to reserve a table in advance at local eateries.
