Cyprus Records the Driest January Since 1997
According to the Department of Meteorology of the Republic of Cyprus, January 2025 will be the second-driest month on record, with only 1997 seeing less rainfall.
As of early this week, total precipitation for the month has reached just 17% of the expected average.
The driest January to date was in 1997, when only 12 mm of rain fell. In contrast, this January has seen 172 mm.
Meteorologists also predict that no rainfall is expected in the coming days across the island.
Additionally, earlier reports highlighted that water levels in Cyprus' dams are currently at critical levels. Despite January usually being the wettest month of the year, this year’s January has been unusually dry.
