New Gas Deposits Discovered on the Cypriot Shelf
During the drilling of the "Kronos-2" well in the sixth block of the Republic of Cyprus' exclusive economic zone, new natural gas deposits have been discovered. Preliminary estimates suggest that the deposit contains approximately 2.5 trillion cubic feet of gas.
Italian energy company Eni, which conducted the drilling in Block 6 in an international consortium with the French company Total, reported on the success achieved in the "Kronos-2" block. On Friday, flames ignited above "Kronos-2," indicating the presence of natural gas in the drilled block.
"Kronos-2" is the fourth gas deposit discovered in Block 6 of the Republic of Cyprus' exclusive economic zone. The sixth block is located 160 km southwest of the island. Drilling is carried out by the floating platform Transocean Barents, chartered by Eni.
Several other deposits, including "Kronos-1," "Zeus," and "Calypso," are also located in Block 6.
