On Easter, schools in Cyprus will install cameras and night guards
In the schools of the Republic of Cyprus, night guards and surveillance cameras will be installed for Easter. With these measures, educational institutions aim to protect against potential vandalism and unauthorized entry.
According to the chairman of the school board, Dinos Ellinas, guards will patrol schools at night when there is an increased likelihood of criminal activity, such as during exam result announcements or holidays.
It is also noted that guards will work in addition to the staff currently working in secondary schools and technical colleges during school hours, rather than replacing them.
Surveillance cameras will only be installed in schools considered to be at higher risk of criminal activity and will only be activated when the schools are empty.
Currently, 50 educational institutions are considered sufficiently dangerous to warrant camera installation.
It is worth noting that in Limassol last Sunday, the fire department was mobilized due to a fire at an elementary school. Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson at the educational institution.
