Charred Body Found in the Ashes of a Factory Fire in Larnaca
A devastating fire broke out at a polystyrene manufacturing plant in the Dromolaxia industrial zone in Larnaca, where the charred remains of a worker were later discovered.
The fire started early Sunday morning, around 8:30 a.m. Eleven fire trucks were dispatched to contain the blaze.
The factory's staff was quickly evacuated, but the situation was made more dangerous by the presence of oil and liquefied gas tanks on-site, raising the risk of explosions. Roads leading to the industrial area were closed off as a precaution.
At the time of the fire, five people were trapped inside the building. Four of them managed to escape and were taken to the hospital by ambulance, suffering from breathing problems. One of them also sustained burns. Unfortunately, the body of the fifth worker was found only after the fire was extinguished.
It has been confirmed that the body belongs to a Greek Cypriot worker who was trapped in the attic while performing electrical installation work. As of this morning, the body has not yet been recovered. However, the victim's family has already been informed of the tragic incident. An official statement will be released following an autopsy and DNA analysis.
This morning, the fire service is expected to clear the site so that police investigators can access the area and begin their investigation.
