Illegal Immigrant Arrested for Voyeurism on Larnaca Beach
Police in Larnaca have arrested a man for secretly recording beachgoers, marking the second such incident in Cyprus in recent days.
According to police reports, the suspicious man was spotted on the beach last Sunday. When officers attempted to check his documents, he tried to flee, pushing a policeman, but was eventually apprehended.
Following his arrest, it was revealed that the 32-year-old man was residing in Cyprus illegally. He was found in possession of two mobile phones, which were seized as evidence after several women complained about violations of their privacy and hidden recordings.
The Cyprus Mail reported a similar incident a few days ago on a beach in Limassol, where a 26-year-old man was arrested for a similar offense. He was remanded in custody for six days by the court.
While consent is generally not required for photography in public places, police emphasized that this was not a case of someone taking a selfie or a general photo where women in bikinis happened to be in the background. The primary concern is the intent of the 26-year-old man: police believe the suspect targeted specific women and posted videos of them without their consent.
