On the central streets of Cypriot cities, the maximum allowed speed will be reduced
In Cyprus, the maximum permitted speed on central streets of cities will be reduced from 50 to 30 km/h. So far, this applies to seven sections of streets and avenues.
The Department of Road Transport of the Republic of Cyprus has completed a study aimed at exploring the idea of reducing the speed limit from 50 to 30 km/h on central streets of cities.
Experts recommend tightening restrictions on seven road sections in Nicosia, Kaimakli, and Aglandjia, in the center of Larnaca, and in three places in Limassol. The names of the streets where new rules may be introduced are not specified.
It is noted that the reduction in the speed limit will occur on major highways where accidents frequently occur. Small streets where it is difficult to develop high speeds will likely not be affected by the restriction.
It is also noted that about 60% of accidents in Cyprus occur within city limits.
Recall that earlier it was reported that 81 people died in road accidents on the island of Cyprus last year. 48 fatal accidents occurred in the TRNC, and 33 people died on the roads of the Republic of Cyprus.
