The National Guard of Cyprus will receive new helicopters
The Republic of Cyprus has signed an agreement to purchase helicopters for its National Guard, announced Defense Minister Michalis Giorgallas. The rotary-wing combat vehicles will arrive in the country in the near future.
The minister did not specify the exact source of the helicopters. Commenting on the existing Russian weapon systems in Cyprus, Michalis Giorgallas stated that they are all in full combat readiness, but due to the current situation, technical maintenance and access to spare parts are not possible.
Earlier, Philenews reported that the Ministry of Defense of Cyprus is seeking new tanks in Israel. According to the publication, the government is considering the 'Merkava' specifically – combat tanks used by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
In response to a request to comment on these reports, a representative of the Ministry of Defense stated that they cannot currently disclose more detailed information due to national security considerations.
