Date for the opening of the hunting season in Cyprus announced
The Department of Forests has announced the opening date for the new hunting season in Cyprus. The department strongly urges hunters to exercise maximum caution.
According to the department’s announcement, the hunting season, including the hunting of quails, will start in Cyprus on Sunday, August 25.
In connection with the start of the hunting season, hunters are advised to exercise utmost caution when venturing into rural and forested areas. It is important to avoid any actions that could lead to a fire.
It should be noted that there is a ban on starting fires for any reason in the country, as current weather conditions contribute to the rapid onset and spread of fire.
Violations can result in imprisonment for up to ten years, a fine of up to 50,000 euros, or both penalties simultaneously. Fires are only permitted in specially designated areas on picnic grounds.
The department also urges hunters to collect spent cartridges – their disposal poses a serious environmental threat and is prohibited by the Wild Birds and Game Protection and Management Law.
Hunters are strongly recommended to be extremely cautious and avoid any actions that could lead to a fire.
If smoke or fire is detected, please immediately call 1407 (Department of Forests) or 112 (Fire Department).
