Three minutes after midnight — silence. And suddenly, a deafening explosion ripped through the night sky over Akrotiri.

Sirens wailed. Residents woke up in a panic. People were literally jolted from their beds — fear, uncertainty, anxiety.

According to eyewitnesses, immediately after the explosion, fighter jets took off from the British base in Akrotiri. Many residents ran out into the streets, some prayed, while others hurriedly packed their belongings and fled their homes.

Initial reports spoke of an unidentified object falling. Later, information emerged about a drone crashing on the territory of the British airbase. There were also unconfirmed reports of a second object being intercepted.

People spent the night in cars

Residents were informed that they could stay at the Limassol Coordination Center if they wished. Some preferred to spend the night in their cars in parking lots, waiting for further developments.

In the morning, a meeting was held at the local council involving representatives of the municipality, civil defense, and competent authorities.

New alarm during the day

Despite statements that the situation was under control, at 12:15 PM, sirens at the base sounded again. Four military aircraft took to the skies. This triggered a new wave of panic among the population.

The British bases were evacuated, and a message was sent to Akrotiri residents regarding an ongoing threat. Republic authorities announced a mandatory evacuation and urged people to relocate to schools in neighboring settlements.

Although the situation is officially assessed as controlled, for the residents of Akrotiri, the fear has already become a reality.
