Nighttime total lunar eclipse will be visible in Cyprus
The total lunar eclipse — the so-called "blood moon" — will be fully visible across the territory of the Republic of Cyprus on Sunday evening, the Troodos Observatory reported. This is the last total eclipse of the year.
According to the observatory, the total duration of the event, including the penumbral and partial phases, will be 5 hours 27 minutes, with the full occultation phase lasting about 1 hour 21 minutes. The Moon will rise above the horizon at approximately 18:59 local time, by which time the weak penumbral phase will have already begun. The partial eclipse starts at 19:28, the total phase at 20:30. The maximum will occur at 21:12, exit from the shadow begins at 21:52, and the eclipse will end at 23:55.
For observation, the observatory has organized an event in Troodos; however, the main phases will also be visible from other parts of the island if the sky is clear. Residents are advised to choose locations with minimal light pollution and consider weather conditions — clouds may hinder observation. Even without optics, the total phase is visible to the naked eye, while additional equipment enhances detail visibility.
