A NEW HEMODIALYSIS UNIT IN PAPHOS WILL OPEN BY THE END OF THE YEAR
The new hemodialysis unit at the general hospital in Paphos will be operational by the end of the year.
The construction of the new unit is planned to be equipped and put into operation in the near future. According to Dr. Lakis Yukkas, the director of the nephrology clinic at the hospital, the equipment will include dialysis machines, a new water purification system, dialysis station panels, beds and chairs, monitors, defibrillators, and electrocardiogram machines.
The project is based on European specifications and can accommodate up to 27 dialysis stations. Each device comes with a warranty of at least 15 years with proper post-sales service. A separate dialysis room will be constructed for HIV-infected individuals and patients with infectious diseases. The unit also includes a reception and registration hall, examination rooms, a first aid station, four dialysis stations for short-term hospitalization, two dialysis stations for patients with infectious diseases with an isolated entrance, staff changing rooms, and auxiliary rooms.
The first floor will house 27 nurse stations and a lounge for patients with auxiliary facilities, while the second floor will accommodate the resident doctors. The entire building is designed to provide access for people with limited mobility. In addition, the new unit will have a breastfeeding room, a peritoneal dialysis room, and a small surgical room.
According to Cyprus Mail, the current hemodialysis unit at the general hospital serves 70 patients undergoing treatment three times a week, and the number of patients with chronic kidney disease in the last stage is constantly increasing by 10-15%.
