New Year without loud fireworks: Cyprus and Greece switch to quiet celebrations

On New Year’s Eve, Lefkoşa/Nicosia and Athens abandoned traditional loud fireworks accompanied by explosions and noise. Instead, the cities focused on visual elements: quiet pyrotechnic effects, light displays, and drone shows.
The decision was made to reduce stress and discomfort, especially for elderly people, children, people with special needs, and pets sensitive to loud sounds. In Nicosia, municipal authorities completely abandoned loud fireworks, while in Athens their intensity was reduced in favor of light-based and silent effects.
Quiet fireworks use smaller amounts of gunpowder, creating impressive visual effects without loud explosions. Drone shows, which are becoming increasingly popular in Europe, allow for the creation of complex images in the sky without the use of conventional pyrotechnic materials.
This approach aligns with modern trends in public celebrations, safety, and environmental care, and also makes events more inclusive for all categories of residents.
