Dangerous dusty weather will persist in Cyprus until Wednesday
This was stated by the head of the country's air quality and strategic planning department, Chrysanthos Savvides.
The level of dustiness recorded at noon on Monday reached 126.9 µg/m³ in Nicosia, 123.7 µg/m³ in Larnaca, 116.8 µg/m³ in Paralimni, 93.3 µg/m³ in Limassol, and 33.2 µg/m³ in Paphos. A level exceeding 35 µg/m³ is considered dangerous.
At the same time, the Ministry of Labour reported that dust contains fine inhalable particles that can have a negative impact on people's health.
Citizens sensitive to dust are advised to exercise caution. This especially applies to vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and people with chronic illnesses.
Vulnerable groups of citizens are strongly advised to wear masks and avoid outdoor activities until the dust subsides.
Employers should take appropriate safety measures for their employees working in open spaces, and the employees themselves should use personal protective equipment.
