A Man Convicted of Killing Four People in Ayia Napa Speaks to British Media from Prison
A man serving a life sentence for the murder of four people in Ayia Napa gave an interview to British media from his prison cell, using a mobile phone to speak with journalists. During the interview, he claimed he was a victim of injustice and maintained his innocence.
Local media reports reveal that the convict appeared on the Not Guilty TV Podcast. The conversation took place directly from his cell in Lefkoşa (Nicosia) Central Prison.
In a teaser released for the podcast, the prisoner shared details about prison life while presenting himself as a victim of a judicial mistake. He criticized the justice system in the Republic of Cyprus and insisted he would never take a life for money.
According to the newspaper Phileleftheros, the man is identified as Dejan Lov, a Serbian national convicted of the murder of four people in Ayia Napa on June 23, 2016.
The case involved the gang-related assassination of Ayia Napa businessman Fanos Kalopsidiotis at the Stone Garden restaurant. The shooting also resulted in the deaths of police officer Elias Hadjiefthimiou and his wife, Skevi.
This incident is likely to reignite debates about introducing mobile phone signal-blocking systems in prisons. So far, no official comments on the matter have been made.
