According to the Statistical Service and the Price Observatory of the Consumer Protection Service, the decline in electricity prices was the main factor behind maintaining negative annual inflation in Cyprus in September 2025.

The annual inflation rate stood at −0.7% in September, the same as in August; in July the figure was −0.9%, and in June −0.4%. Electricity prices fell by 11% year-on-year, while petroleum products decreased by 2.7%.

By economic category, compared to September 2024, services rose by 3%, food and non-alcoholic beverages fell by 3%, and agricultural products dropped by 5%. However, compared to August 2025, agricultural products increased by 3.5%.

The Price Observatory recorded monthly increases in certain food products: frozen mollusks and crustaceans +13.8%, fresh fish and mollusks +12.7%, fresh vegetables and greens +9.5%. At the same time, prices for fresh meat fell by 4%; baby diapers decreased by 2.4%, eggs by 1.8%, and breakfast cereals by 1.5%.

The Consumer Protection Service noted that the decline in energy prices, especially electricity, increased household purchasing power and softened the impact of certain food price rises.

Price comparisons across supermarkets via the e-kalathi platform showed a narrowing of the gap between the most expensive and the cheapest chains. In June 2025, the difference was €230 (€990 vs €760), and by October it had decreased to €147 (€961 vs €814). For 40 common products, the difference shrank from €43 on June 15 to €23 on October 15. The Service encourages consumers to use e-kalathi; the Price Observatories are meant for information purposes and do not replace individual market monitoring.
