The House of Representatives introduced an €85 fine for parking at public electric vehicle charging points
The plenary session of the House of Representatives in Cyprus approved an amendment to the Law on Extra-Judicial Settlement of Offenses, establishing a fine of €85 for violating a sign related to parking a vehicle at a publicly accessible electric vehicle charging point.
The Transport Committee extended the text of the amendment to include not only non-electric motor vehicles but also electric cars that are not currently connected to the charger and therefore are not in charging mode.
The document includes a provision stating that an electric vehicle is considered to be in charging mode when the cable is connected to the charging station. The amendment also applies to municipal lots and spaces.
The bill was proposed by Stavros Papaduris from the “Ecologists — Citizens’ Cooperation” party. According to the explanatory note, the changes are necessary to combat the widespread practice of parking in special charging spots either by non-electric vehicles or electric cars not connected to the charger.
It is noted that the €85 fine is already applied for violating a stop sign in a bus lane.
