Panathinaikos Files Complaint Against Fenerbahçe for Displaying TRNC Flag
Following the basketball game between Fenerbahçe and Panathinaikos, the Greek national team submitted a formal complaint to the EuroLeague management regarding Fenerbahçe’s display of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) flag.
During the fifth week of EuroLeague competition, Fenerbahçe lost at home to the Greek team Panathinaikos with a final score of 76-81. Ahead of the game, flags of Turkey and the TRNC were hung in the stands as part of a ceremony commemorating Republic Day on October 29.
The TRNC flag, positioned behind the Fenerbahçe bench and near the scorer’s table, appeared multiple times during the game broadcast, sparking a reaction from Panathinaikos management and the Greek national team. A representative from Greece subsequently filed an official complaint with the EuroLeague administration.
To date, the league’s management has not issued any statements regarding the complaint.
