Nearly 10% of Students in Cyprus Experience Cyberbullying
The Republic of Cyprus participated in a study conducted by the World Health Organization on school bullying, and the results have raised concerns among specialists.
The research in Cyprus was carried out by the Educational Scientific Assessment Center of the Pedagogical Institute. According to the published data, 4.3% of students aged 11 to 15 reported that they had bullied other children at school, while 7.8% experienced bullying at least 2 to 3 times a month.
Internationally, the percentage of children who reported bullying others at school more than once a month is 6%. Similar to Cyprus, boys in most other countries demonstrate a higher participation rate in bullying compared to girls. When it comes to the victimization of children by their peers, this figure worldwide reaches 11%.
On an international scale, 12% of children have reported bullying another child online at least once or twice in recent months. In Cyprus, this figure is slightly lower at 9.5%.
The percentage is notably higher among 15-year-olds. In Cyprus, 14.4% of children reported experiencing online bullying, compared to an international rate of 16%. Research from various countries indicates that the rate of bullying among girls is higher than that among boys in this context.
