Almost 23% of Cyprus residents were born abroad
Cyprus ranks third in the EU in terms of the proportion of residents of foreign origin. These data are from a report by the European Statistical Agency Eurostat.
According to the published data, Cyprus ranks third in this ranking. The highest proportion of EU residents born abroad (in another member state or in third countries) was recorded in Luxembourg – 50.4%, followed by Malta – 28.3%. Cyprus's figure stood at 22.7%.
The lowest rates were recorded in Poland (2.5%) and Bulgaria (2.6%).
The largest number of residents of foreign origin in 2023 was recorded in Germany (16.5 million people), France (8.9 million), and Spain (8.2 million).
The highest proportion of residents born in another EU country was also recorded in Luxembourg (33.2%). Cyprus followed with 10.6%.
The lowest number of residents born in other EU countries was recorded in Poland (0.6 percent), Lithuania (0.7 percent), and Bulgaria (0.9 percent).
As for residents born in third countries, the highest proportions were recorded in Malta (20.9%) and Luxembourg (17.2%), followed by Ireland, Sweden, and Estonia, each with a share of 15.2 percent.
In Cyprus, this indicator was lower at 12.1 percent.
