Nearly 7,000 Illegal Immigrants Deported from Cyprus Since the Start of the Year
Since the beginning of 2024, the Republic of Cyprus has repatriated nearly 7,000 individuals living illegally on the island.
According to the relevant authorities, as of August 22, 2024, a total of 6,800 people have been deported or repatriated from Cyprus as part of the police’s efforts to return third-country nationals to their home countries.
The most recent joint forced return flight took place on August 20, coordinated by FRONTEX. This was the ninth joint operation involving the Cypriot police for repatriation and deportation this year.
For comparison, during the same period last year, a total of 5,977 individuals were deported.
Efforts by the police and the Department of Foreigners and Migration to increase the number of returns continue.
