An Olive Oil Packaging Facility Burns Down Near Larnaca
A fire broke out at an olive oil packaging facility near Larnaca, with firefighting efforts complicated by the presence of highly flammable materials.
According to the fire department, the blaze ignited at 8:17 p.m. yesterday in a metal structure located northeast of the Alethriko community. The facility, measuring 80 by 40 meters, is used to package olive oil, carob, and other organic products.
Seven fire trucks from Larnaca stations were deployed to tackle the fire. Due to the materials’ flammable properties, firefighters battled the flames throughout the night and into the morning. The incident resulted in the complete destruction of the building, equipment, and stored products. Fortunately, firefighters managed to save a nearby home and some farm structures from the fire.
An olive oil press located further from the facility was not affected.
Fire investigators will determine the cause of the blaze once it has been fully extinguished.
