Police Arrest Suspect in Aradippou Forest Arson
Cyprus police have arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of involvement in a major fire that occurred yesterday afternoon in rural areas of Aradippou. The suspect confessed to starting the fire out of personal animosity.
According to investigators, the fire in the rural areas of Aradippou broke out yesterday around 10:00 AM. Preliminary findings indicate that arson was the cause: police, firefighters, and forestry department personnel found six separate spots over an area of approximately three square kilometers where the fire may have originated.
During a patrol of the area, police stopped a 27-year-old man for questioning. He attacked one of the officers and attempted to flee but was apprehended by other police officers.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to starting the fire and has been remanded in custody pending further investigation. According to the detained individual, the motive for the arson was "personal disagreements."
It is also noted that police are searching for another suspect, a 25-year-old man.
As a result of the fire, one hectare of land, a building in the field, and bales of hay were destroyed.
