Cyprus police are investigating a series of car fires across the country
Over the past day, a series of car arson incidents occurred across Cyprus. Fires were reported at a gas station in Nicosia, near a restaurant, and in an industrial zone in Paphos, as well as in the residential area of Pissouri in Limassol.
In particular, one of the fires broke out on Wednesday around 5 a.m. in two cars parked at a gas station on Makarios Avenue in Nicosia. The fire department quickly extinguished the fire upon arrival at the scene.
The police have already conducted a preliminary investigation at the scene. The exact causes of the fires are being determined. Arson is considered one of the versions. The scene has been secured.
Also, on Tuesday evening in Paphos, a car belonging to a local 46-year-old restaurateur caught fire. The fire started in the car parked on the main road near the establishment, then spread to a second car belonging to a 32-year-old man.
The fire department extinguished the fire. The police have confirmed that the cause of the incident was arson. The scene remains cordoned off, and the criminal investigation continues.
In addition, Paphos police arrested a person in connection with a car arson case that occurred early Tuesday morning in a vehicle parked in a garage in the Agia Varvara industrial zone.
The detainee is the owner of the vehicle. The police are searching for a second person for whom an arrest warrant has been issued. The vehicle was completely destroyed by fire.
Another car fire occurred at 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday in the residential area of Pissouri in Limassol. As a result of the incident, the car was completely destroyed.
The scene is cordoned off, and the investigation into the exact causes of the fire continues. As of today, there is no evidence to determine whether the fire was intentionally set or occurred due to electromechanical malfunction. The car was parked by the owner near the house earlier in the day.
