Cyprus Police Crack Down on Beach Thieves
The Republic of Cyprus Police are ramping up efforts to combat beach thefts. Beachgoers are urged to leave valuable items, such as expensive phones, at home.
Complaints about pickpocketing on beaches have become a daily issue, police representative Christos Andreou said on CyBC's morning radio show on Tuesday.
In response to a surge in thefts on beaches across the island, plainclothes officers are now patrolling organized bathing areas, according to law enforcement.
The beaches of Famagusta, Ayia Napa, Protaras, and Finikoudes Beach in Larnaca are receiving special attention.
The increased police presence has already shown results: several beach thieves have been apprehended and held accountable in recent days.
The police advise swimmers to take precautions by not bringing valuable items to the beach and by keeping an eye on their belongings.
