Cyprus Police Enhance Security Measures Ahead of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary

The Cyprus Police are increasing security measures in preparation for the upcoming nationwide holiday on August 15th, the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. The action plan to ensure citizens' safety takes effect today.

According to a police statement, in anticipation of the holiday, there will be an increased police presence across Cyprus from August 13th to 15th. Officers will be stationed on major roads and in busy areas to ensure road safety and prevent crime and violations.

Over the next three days, police officers will be positioned at key points in the road network to manage traffic flow as needed and conduct checks aimed at preventing traffic violations.

Special attention will be given to offenses such as drunk driving, speeding, driving without seat belts, and riding motorcycles without helmets.

Additionally, the police will implement extra security measures, including motorized and foot patrols in both urban and rural areas, to prevent property crimes such as burglaries.

Patrols will also be intensified in areas with large gatherings of people.

As a reminder, August 15th is a national holiday in Cyprus, marking the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. On the night of August 15th, there is a traditional procession with the Epitaphios. Special ceremonial services are held in monasteries dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
