The police have announced an all-Cyprus road campaign aimed at addressing driver distraction and driving without hands-free (using a mobile phone or other objects). The campaign will start on Monday, October 6, 2025, and run through Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Inspections will be synchronized with European initiatives as part of police cooperation with the European Traffic Police Network. The focus will be on detecting the use of mobile devices while driving and other forms of distraction that reduce driver reaction time.

According to official data from 2022–2024, driver distraction caused 21.4% of fatal traffic accidents and 24.3% of serious injuries, making it one of the leading factors in severe and deadly road accidents.

Additionally, during the campaign, checks will cover major violations contributing to serious and fatal accidents: unfastened seat belts, lack of protective helmets, speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Drivers are advised that intensified monitoring is expected on the island’s roads.
