The Paphos Police have arrested a suspect in the robbery of the Church of Saint Paraskevi
The Paphos Police have arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of robbing the Church of Saint Paraskevi in Geroskipou. The stolen amount from the church office increased from 5 to 9 thousand euros.
According to the police press service, the young man was arrested yesterday evening. He is suspected of stealing various valuables and cash from the church office in Geroskipou.
After the arrest, the detainee confessed during interrogation to committing the crime and stated that the total amount he took from the temple was not 5 thousand euros, as previously reported, but around 9 thousand euros. All of this amount came from donations by believers. Also on the list of stolen items are two pairs of gold cufflinks belonging to the priest.
Recall that earlier it was reported that the crime became known on February 3rd, after the archimandrite, who heads the Church of Saint Paraskevi in Geroskipou, reported it to the Paphos Police. According to the priest, the church office was burglarized on February 2nd between 16:30 and 18:30.
During the inspection of the crime scene, police officers determined that the perpetrators entered the premises through a wooden window of the office, which was broken, and then left the office the same way with the loot.
Earlier, the police arrested the suspect's spouse. She was questioned and faced several charges. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
