Paphos Police Investigates Sudden Death of Six-Year-Old Girl
A six-year-old girl from Nigeria has suddenly died in Cyprus. The Paphos police are investigating her death.
According to the police, on July 17, 2024, the girl underwent surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids at Paphos General Hospital. She was discharged the following day.
It is reported that at some point, the girl fell asleep and did not wake up. Her parents found her unconscious in her crib. Late on Thursday evening, she was taken to the emergency department of Paphos General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The girl lived with her parents, who are asylum seekers from Nigeria. According to Michalis Nicolaou, Assistant Director of the Paphos Police Operational Department, the girl "had been experiencing various health problems since birth."
Police have stated that "criminal prosecution is ruled out" as there have been no complaints of medical negligence. The exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
