Visitors to Mall of Cyprus Donate Over 2,000 Units of Blood
During blood donation drives held at the Mall of Cyprus, nearly 2,700 people generously donated more than 2,000 units of blood in total.
The campaign was organized in collaboration with the Cyprus Blood Center. In 2023 alone, 1,210 participants contributed 911 units of blood. Since the beginning of 2024, an additional 1,483 volunteers have donated 1,120 units of blood.
In total, over the past two years, these blood donation drives at the Mall of Cyprus have successfully collected 2,031 units of blood.
"Given that the average human body contains about 10 units of blood, these generous donations can help save or sustain the lives of over 200 people. Every unit of blood is crucial for the health and recovery of patients," the mall stated.
It was previously reported that Cyprus has been facing a severe shortage of donor blood. According to the head of the Blood Center, the shortage was caused by the summer holidays and vacations, as many regular donors were away. The daily demand for blood in all groups across the country is around 300 to 350 units.
Due to the low reserves, dozens of blood transfusions for thalassemia patients in Cyprus have been postponed.
