After Iran's attack on Israel, security measures are being reinforced in Cyprus
In light of the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus are enhancing security measures at embassies and border entries into the country.
According to the Minister of Justice of the country, Marios Charalambous, competent authorities are monitoring the situation in the Middle East: the country's authorities have taken all necessary security measures.
In particular, police patrol groups have been strengthened in all cities. Round-the-clock surveillance by law enforcement agencies has been established near the Israeli embassy building.
- Security measures have been in place for several days now, but depending on the developments, constant information and updates are required, whether they concern infrastructure or facilities, embassies, and private companies representing Israeli and other interests, —the minister's statement said.
The publication Alpha news notes that yesterday, there was calm at the Iranian embassy in Nicosia throughout the day, and police presence at the American embassy was restrained.
Recall that last weekend, Iran attacked Israel with hundreds of missiles and drones.
The massive attack on Israeli territory by Iran occurred from Saturday night to Sunday. A total of about 400-500 unmanned aerial vehicles and about 150 missiles were launched from western provinces of Iran. According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), 99% of them were intercepted or shot down. The damage from the attack was insignificant, including damage to one of the military bases in the Negev desert in the south of the country. About 30 people were injured in the attack. There is no information about fatalities.
Planes flew from British military bases in Cyprus. The president of the country, Nikos Christodoulides, convened an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council on Sunday.
