Embassy of the Holy See in Cyprus Opens Book of Condolences for Pope Francis
The Embassy of the Holy See in Nicosia has opened a book of condolences following the passing of Pope Francis. Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides is expected to attend the pontiff’s funeral.
The book will be available for signing on Wednesday and Friday, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at the Apostolic Nunciature of Cyprus, located at 17 Ionon Street in the Ayios Andreas district of Nicosia.
Pope Francis visited Cyprus in 2021, where he delivered an address to the congregation at the Church of the Holy Cross in Nicosia’s Old Town, near the Paphos Gate.
The Pope passed away on April 21 at his residence in the Vatican. He had been receiving treatment for bilateral pneumonia over an extended period.
The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, April 26. A funeral Mass will be held outside St. Peter’s Basilica, after which the pontiff will be laid to rest at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. President Christodoulides will travel to Rome to attend the ceremony, which will begin at 10:00 AM local time (11:00 AM in Cyprus).
President Christodoulides had earlier expressed his “profound sorrow” over the Pope's death, describing him as a tireless champion of peace, dialogue, and solidarity.
