Follow-Up Tests Clear Lady’s Mile Beach in Limassol of Bacteria Concerns
Water quality at Lady’s Mile Beach in Limassol has been confirmed safe, as follow-up tests detected no traces of enterococci bacteria. The health advisory issued by the British Bases is expected to be lifted soon.
According to local media, four separate water samples were taken from different points along the beach and analyzed by the State Chemistry Laboratory. All results came back clear, showing no signs of harmful bacteria.
Authorities are now awaiting confirmation from the British Bases, as well as additional test results from the municipalities of Kourion and Limassol.
Sources from the Department of Environment say they are confident that once all test results are reviewed, the beach will officially be declared safe for swimming.
To recap: last Saturday, the British Bases issued a public health warning after reporting a spike in enterococcal infections linked to Lady’s Mile Beach. They urged the public to avoid swimming in the area. The government of the Republic of Cyprus quickly disputed the claim, stating that tests conducted by the State Chemistry Laboratory showed no signs of contamination. Despite these assurances, the British Bases later issued a second advisory, recommending the public continue to avoid the water until the situation was clarified.
