Fire at London Heathrow Airport Disrupts Flights to Cyprus
A fire at a power station at London Heathrow Airport has caused significant disruptions to flights to Cyprus, with the airport being shut down for 24 hours.
Passengers traveling from Cyprus to any UK airport are urged to contact their airline for updates due to the Heathrow closure.
The incident is expected to lead to flight cancellations on all routes, including those to Larnaca and Paphos, as well as significant delays for airlines flying to London. Some flights have already been rerouted to other airports in the capital.
It has been confirmed that British Airways has canceled its 7:40 AM flight from Larnaca.
One of the world’s busiest airports remains closed due to the ongoing fire at the power station.
Heathrow Airport stated:
— “To ensure the safety of our passengers and staff, Heathrow will be closed until 11:59 PM on March 21. We advise passengers not to travel to the airport and to contact their airline for more information. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
The fire has already affected 145,000 passengers and disrupted more than 1,000 flights. On Friday, a total of 1,351 flights were scheduled to depart and arrive at Heathrow. At least 120 flights have been diverted to other airports.
Firefighters, including around 70 members of the London Fire Brigade, are still working to contain the blaze. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
