Fire in an electronics store on Strovolos Avenue in Nicosia — arson not ruled out
The fire broke out late Monday evening in an electronics store on Strovolos Avenue in the Strovolos district of Nicosia, Cyprus. The fire service and police are investigating the cause of the blaze.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Ketti, specialists have already determined the location where the fire started; initial evidence points to an external area as the origin of the blaze. Ketti noted that all possibilities remain open, including the possibility of criminal intent. He also reported that there was sufficient “fuel” on site for the fire to develop and spread.
The fire started late in the evening and spread rapidly, causing significant damage to the electronics store on the ground floor. The building is three stories high, with the two upper floors used as offices.
Strovolos Avenue was temporarily closed to ensure safety and allow firefighting operations. Traffic reopened around 22:00 Monday on the section between Pavlou Mela Street and the Spiru Kyprianou roundabout, heading from Nicosia to Lakatamia.
The fire service and police continue to investigate the incident.
