The Government of Cyprus has purchased 40 electric vehicles for 1.5 million euros.
The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Cyprus announced on Thursday the acquisition of 40 electric vehicles to be used for official state purposes. The total cost of the vehicles was 1,466,080.00 euros, or 36,652 euros per car.
Today, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeadis received the keys to the 40 electric vehicles from Michaels Automotive Ltd to meet the needs of various ministries, departments, and services in the public sector.
It is noted that the purpose of acquiring the vehicles is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants in the atmosphere as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The procurement aligns with the EU's goal to phase out the use of polluting fuels and reduce air pollution. This also includes the supply of environmentally friendly passenger cars, which have been designated as 31.9% of all vehicle deliveries for the Republic of Cyprus under government and contract tenders until December 31, 2025.
In addition, the Department of Electromechanical Services will continue to install corresponding charging stations at units and services where electric vehicles will be supplied.
"We already have several charging devices in Cyprus, but our goal is to have more so that people don't worry about finding a charging station when they need one," the minister stated.
Furthermore, Alexis Vafeadis announced that in December, the government will introduce a new subsidy scheme for the purchase of electric vehicles for the general public.
