The government presented six tax reform bills in Cyprus
On November 6, 2025, the government of Cyprus, represented by government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, presented six bills forming part of a tax reform package.
According to the spokesperson, the reform aims to reduce the tax burden, support the middle class and young families, and stimulate employment. However, no detailed chronological implementation plan was presented.
Among the proposed measures are the abolition of the deemed dividend distribution and the reduction of the defense contribution to 5%. Observers note that these changes are likely to primarily benefit business circles, while no specific measures have yet been announced for the average worker to address the rising cost of living, fuel expenses, and housing affordability issues.
The government refers to the "good state of the economy" and the reduction of public debt. It is expected that during discussions in the House of Representatives, the initiative will face strong reactions from the opposition; some voices already describe the package as a demonstrative project lacking sufficient mechanisms for the general public.
Final conclusions on whether the reform will bring real relief to households will depend on the specific provisions and their implementation timeline.
