Cyprus President Attends Climate Change Conference in Baku

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, is participating in the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference, held in Azerbaijan. The Cypriot leader departed for Baku earlier today.

According to government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the conference will address key issues, including increased funding for climate action, the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and enhancing efforts toward climate adaptation and mitigation.

On Tuesday morning, President Christodoulides is set to attend the Summit of Heads of State and Government’s opening ceremony, where the United Nations Secretary-General will also deliver remarks.

During the leaders’ session, the President will make a national statement outlining Cyprus’ climate change initiatives, the country’s strategic actions to mitigate climate impacts, and its regional leadership in these areas.

In the evening, he will join a formal dinner hosted by the President of Azerbaijan, honoring the participating summit leaders.

President Christodoulides is expected to return to Cyprus on Wednesday.
