President of Cyprus Held Phone Call with UK Prime Minister
President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak.
According to a written statement from government representative Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the conversation focused on developments related to the humanitarian aid mission to Gaza via a maritime corridor from Cyprus, regional events, immigration, and the development of the Cyprus conflict.
Nikos Christodoulides informed the UK Prime Minister about the ongoing efforts of the Republic of Cyprus and partner countries to increase the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The head of the British government acknowledged the value of the Republic of Cyprus' initiative, as well as the overall leading role that Cyprus plays in the region, as demonstrated during the evacuation of citizens from Sudan.
Additionally, the President of Cyprus briefed the UK Prime Minister on the current stage of the Cyprus issue and the efforts made to resume negotiations from where they were interrupted.
During the talks, immigration issues and ways to effectively combat uncontrolled flows of illegal migrants were discussed, as well as issues related to regional events in the volatile Eastern Mediterranean region.
The President of the Republic and the UK Prime Minister agreed to maintain frequent contacts and keep each other informed about the development of issues of common interest to the governments of both countries.
