On Thursday evening, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, flew to Rome, where he held meetings with the country's leadership. The head of state was received for the first time by the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella.
During the "courtesy meeting," Nicos Anastasiades extended an invitation to the Italian leader to visit Cyprus next year on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the island's accession to the European Union. It will also be the first visit to Cyprus by the President of Italy.
"In 2024, Cyprus celebrates the 20th anniversary of its accession to the EU, a historic and most significant moment in the history of the Republic of Cyprus," said Anastasiades to the Italian statesman.
Later in the evening, Nicos Anastasiades had a working meeting with the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, at the Palazzo Chigi in Rome.
It is worth noting that before the trip to Italy, the President of Cyprus made an official two-day visit to Serbia.
