President of the TRNC Ready to Open a New Checkpoint in Nicosia
Ersin Tatar, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), has announced his readiness to open a new checkpoint in Mia Milia (Haspolat) on the eastern outskirts of Nicosia. The border gates will be prepared once the road in Haspolat is completed.
Tatar shared this information during an interview on Kıbrıs Postası TV. He highlighted that he discussed the potential opening of new crossings between the north and south with TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel after an informal dinner last week with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
"The opening of the border gates in Haspolat will be a very positive development for boosting trade," Tatar stated.
According to him, the new border checkpoint in Haspolat will significantly ease traffic at the Metehan border crossing.
