Wanted Fraudster from Germany Arrested at Paphos Airport
Police in Paphos have arrested a man wanted in Germany for fraud. The 68-year-old suspect had been on the run since 2018 and was captured while trying to leave Cyprus.
According to a police press release, the man was detained on Tuesday at around 3:20 PM at Paphos Airport. He had arrived at the airport at approximately 10:30 AM, planning to depart the island.
During a passport check, police officers discovered an active arrest warrant issued by German authorities. The warrant relates to a series of fraudulent activities that occurred between 2015 and 2018. The suspect is accused of illegally obtaining €40,483 through financial schemes.
The man was arrested under a local warrant and is expected to appear in court today to begin extradition proceedings.
