Vehicle registrations in Cyprus have surged by 33.5%
According to a report from the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat), the total number of registered vehicles in Cyprus has increased by 33.5 percent. From January to April 2024, 17,589 vehicles were registered in the country, compared to 13,180 in 2023.
The data shows that registrations for passenger cars increased by 31.3%, reaching 13,851 compared to 10,546 in 2023.
Out of the total registered passenger cars, 6,073 (43.8%) were new, and 7,778 (56.2%) were used.
According to the Statistical Service, the proportion of passenger cars with gasoline engines in this category of vehicles decreased to 48.9% compared to 60.1% in the corresponding period of 2023.
The share of diesel engine cars decreased from 11% in 2023 to 10% in 2024.
The proportion of electric cars increased from 2.3% in 2023 to 3.6% in 2024, and the share of hybrid cars increased from 26.6% to 37.4%.
In January-April 2024, the number of registered buses increased to 78 compared to 68 for the same period in 2023.
The registrations for commercial vehicles surged by 47.4% to 1,963, compared to 1,332 in the corresponding period of 2023.
The number of registrations for motorcycles under 50 cc increased to 364 compared to 350 for the same period in 2023.
Registration of motorcycles over 50 cc increased by 6.6% to 1,099 in January-April 2024 compared to 1,031 for the same period in 2023.
In April 2024, the total number of registered vehicles reached 4,762, which is 59.4% more than the 2,987 units registered in the same month of the previous year.
