Christmas villages overload roads near Lefkara: parents with a child unable to reach a doctor

The Christmas atmosphere in the mountain villages of Cyprus turned into a real problem: roads in the Lefkara area literally “come to a standstill” during days of high visitor traffic. The head of Vavatsinia, Andreas Gavriil, reported that last Friday one of the stretches was effectively blocked for over an hour — during which time parents taking a child to a doctor could not get through.
According to him, people tried to contact the police, but no immediate intervention reportedly occurred. Residents emphasize that they are not against tourism or festive events, but when access to medical care is threatened due to traffic jams, it is no longer just an “inconvenience,” but a safety issue.
Gavriil specifically warned that in the event of an accident or another emergency, an ambulance or fire truck could get stuck in such a jam. He called for faster organization of traffic regulation and service accountability — especially on peak days when Christmas villages attract thousands of visitors.
