Nearly 5,000 Illegal Immigrants Have Left Cyprus Since the Beginning of the Year

Since the start of 2024, almost 4,900 illegal immigrants have departed from the Republic of Cyprus. This marks an increase of a thousand individuals compared to the same period last year, when 3,887 illegal migrants were deported from the country.

According to a statement from the Cypriot police, individuals residing unlawfully in the country are leaving the island either through deportation or voluntary repatriation. The rise in the number of migrants leaving Cyprus suggests more proactive efforts in migration control and management.

Specifically, on June 4, 2024, the Cyprus police conducted a joint operation with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) to repatriate foreign nationals living illegally in the Republic of Cyprus.

During the operation, some citizens from non-EU countries were repatriated on return flights facilitated by the German authorities.

It is worth noting that this is the eighth similar Frontex operation in which Cyprus has participated this year. One such event occurred on May 21, with cooperation between the authorities of Cyprus and Greece.

Earlier reports indicated that in the first 5 months of 2024, nearly 4,500 people were repatriated from the Republic of Cyprus.
