Cardiovascular diseases continue to rank first among the causes of death in Cyprus. This is evidenced by the latest data from the healthcare system.

According to statistics, heart and vascular diseases claim more lives than cancer, infections, and injuries. Doctors note that the key risk factors remain high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, diabetes, a sedentary lifestyle, and an unbalanced diet.

Specialists emphasize that a significant proportion of cases could have been prevented through earlier diagnosis and lifestyle changes. Regular check-ups, monitoring cholesterol and blood sugar levels, as well as physical activity, remain the main preventive measures.

The Cypriot healthcare system is increasingly focusing on programs for early detection of cardiovascular risks and informing the population about prevention.
