Traces of a high-profile murder investigation in Greece lead to Cyprus
Greek authorities report that the investigation into the murder of a 42-year-old “Body Builder” — a figure linked to the Greek Mafia — has led investigators to Cyprus. The main focus is on a dark BMW 320i that the killers used while preparing the crime and during the attempted hit in Pangrati.
According to Greek media, the car was temporarily handed over in 2023 to a 49-year-old former special adviser to the SYRIZA party. After the vehicle’s role in a series of attacks came to light, police tried to contact him, but without success. Investigators believe the man is currently in Cyprus, where, according to their information, the main direction of the search has now shifted.
The car with fake plates was used during the attempted murder in September. Later, the plates were replaced with real ones in order to mislead the investigation. After studying CCTV footage, the vehicle was quickly identified, and investigators traced it to its temporary user — whose presence in Cyprus is now being verified.
At the same time, Greek police are trying to identify the person who ordered the “contract,” reportedly worth more than 300,000 euros. A version is being considered that the person is connected to individuals the victim had previously worked with — and that some contacts may have taken place through Cyprus.
The investigation is continuing to collect international data, and the Cypriot side, according to Greek sources, has already been informed of the possible movement of the suspect.
The investigation continues.
