Cyprus Church Holy Synod Removes Metropolitan Tychikos of Paphos from Office
The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus has officially removed Metropolitan Tychikos from his duties as head of the Paphos Metropolis, following a prolonged emergency meeting.
However, the Synod decided to allow him to retain his status as a bishop within the Church of Cyprus and to remain a member of the Holy Synod. He will now be placed under the Church’s authority, which will determine where he will continue his service. He is also expected to receive a new title and be appointed to a different role.
Starting today, the Archbishop of Cyprus, Georgios, will temporarily assume the role of vicar for the Paphos Metropolis.
Metropolitan Tychikos was called before the Synod after serious complaints were filed against him regarding his behavior and management of church affairs. During the meeting, the Archbishop read letters from laypeople and former church officials, which included allegations of misconduct related to appointments and internal administration within the Paphos Metropolis.
